What happens if the vehicle breaks down or if I have an accident?

Europcar provides 24/7 emergency roadside assistance for breakdown and accident.




In the case of an accident, and If there are injured people, please call the Emergency services first. 
For Europe: call 112


Once injured people are taken care of:

👉 Call roadside assistance with the proper information: (Roadside assistance’s number can be found, either on the rental agreement or the keys)

  • License plate
  • Make and model
  • Colour (if known)
  • Nature of fault
  • Precise location of vehicle (if vehicle taken by the emergency service, please provide the name of the tow truck service to facilitate the file)
  • Contact number
  • Whereabouts of keys

👉 Prepare a written accident report / damage report. (You will find a form for this in your vehicle documents or click here to download.) 

The accident report or the damage report must in particular contain:
  • The name and address of the persons involved. 
  • Any witnesses 
  • Photographs if you have.
  • The license plates of the vehicles involved. 
  • The police file number. 
  • Your account of what happened.




Submit the accident report at the Europcar station or by email to the Customer service of your country.




Even in the event of minor damage, such as scratches, you are obliged to prepare a written accident report and hand them in at the Europcar station.
